When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed. Dietetic foods for kidney conditions are designed to help reduce workload on the kidneys, enabling them to function more effectively. Cats with decreased kidney function may experience loss of appetite and their food intake might decline.
Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Hill's Prescription Diet k/d clinical nutrition to help protect your cat's vital kidney function and enhance appetite and increase food intake. This dry food is made with chicken and has an irresistible taste that your cat will love. In fact, Prescription Diet k/d is clinically proven nutrition to improve & lengthen quality of life.
- Clinically proven nutrition to improve quality of life and lengthen the relationship with your cat
- Helps protect vital kidney function
- High levels of essential amino acids and L-Carnitine to help build and maintain muscle mass

Excellent for renal problems
Charlie is a rescued cat who came to us with dental problems, he had a major operation in May to remove teeth and have 9 route canal's cleared. It was discovered that he had 60% renal failure. On the recommendation of the vet his diet was changed to Hills KD. Charlie was used to having daily treats more so because he would not eat his cat food. As explained by the vet he associated the smell of the food with pain hence requiring a regular change of cat food brands. The strange thing is biscuits did not bother his dental problem. KD food is high in protein and a cause for weight gain if the daily allowance is not adhered to. I follow the guidance given by Hills, I maily feed wet food as I feel this is better for a cat with renal problems and use the allowance of dried food as treats. Charlie will still not eat wet food as I think the solid pieces must hurt his teeth and gums however he happily eats the wet food if liquidised we call it Charlie's smoothies. I use 1 pouch of food and approx two thirds of a pouch of water. This ensures that he has sufficient water to help flush his kidneys. 3 months on and his kidney function has improved. I hope this review will help reluctant cats to change to KD food.

vet's advice!!
I purchased this item on the advice of the vet. Although different to the food my cat is used to eating, it is good for him and I find that he eats it more readily if mixed with a product more familiar to him!!

My Cat does not like this food but I found that if I mix it with a 1/2 sachet of Gourmet Perle of the same flavour she eats it all.
