    An expensive flop so far

Posted by FlapaCat on 4th Mar 2020

We had problems with other cats coming through our previous cat flap and stealing food. The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect looked like it could be the answer. We followed the set up instructions and it recognised our cat's microchip. The new flap fitted into the existing cat flap hole cut in a double glazed panel perfectly, although it does protrude into the kitchen and prevents the adjacent sliding door opening properly. Not a problem as we have a second door we can use and if it keeps out all the non-resident cats in the neighbourhood it'll be worth any inconvenience. Well, we certainly haven't had any other cats come through the new flap since it was installed, but then again our own cat hasn't been through it either! The problem is the loud click as our cat tries to use it which terrifies her. This is a problem that's known by the manufacturers and they offer some advice as to how to overcome it. They say to take the batteries out so your cat can use the flap as an ordinary flap for a while. That doesn't work because when you take the batteries out the flap is stuck in the locked position. Next bit of advice is to prop the cat flap door open so she can use it without having to push the door open. Problem with that, is that if you leave the batteries in it still clicks and she still won't go near it. Given the very expensive price of this masterpiece of technology I'm pretty hacked off. However, I'm trying to stay positive. She has looked at it a little bit more lately and maybe we'll get there eventually. I'll update my review should that be the case.

Great cat flap for multi-cat household

    Posted by CAP87 on 18th Jan 2020

Bought this sureflap cat flap 2 weeks ago and it is brilliant for multi-cat households. Hub is easy to set up and links well to mobile phone app. This cat flap is particularly good if you want to keep one cat in but let another out - easy to set this up on app and easy to change settings.

Great for cats and owners alike!

This has been a great investment for both me and my cat. My cat was able to get used to the cat flap quickly and can now come and go as he pleases. This is also brilliant for me, as I can happily keep an eye on him when away from home. The app for me has had no problems so far and the delivery was outstanding - on time with the selected time slot!

    Purrfect

The Sureflap cat flap is a great product. One of the cats got it straight away, the other is nervous of the clicking sound when the chip is recognised. He will get used to it I am sure. I love it as I can track their movement now with the alerts in my phone. And the ears light up when we are in the sitting room too.

    Overall a good product

It takes almost two seconds to scan the chip and it seemed too long for me. However, my cat got used to it very quickly. The iOS app works perfectly on the iPhone but could be improved at least for a landscape view on the iPad. My only true remark is that they should have designed it to work at 4.8V instead of 6V to allow for rechargeable batteries. I am still using them but they don't last too long. Come on, guys, it's 2020. Help save the environment, build a more energy efficient one.

    Great

I bought this for my cat who loves the outdoors. Such a great way to keep other, unwanted cats out, your cat happy to explore and with a touch of a button you can control the cat flap.

    Great idea

Great product , unfortunately my cat refuses to use it. She was originally suspicious of the new cat flap and her suspicions were confirmed when it made the clicking noise! Only had it 2 weeks so hopefully she might get used to it

Good product - with some flaws

Posted by PeterDJC on 12th Aug 2019

Only fitted the yesterday, so this is a review of its immediate functionality. The first thing to note is that it's small - quite a bit smaller than most cat flaps. Fine if your cats are svelte and athletic (as ours are), but if they're a bit plump, or one of the larger breeds, they probably won't be able to squeeze through. The Pet Flap Connect is an alternative, but doesn't allow you to selectively allow access to the outdoors for different pets (which is what we wanted). The small size means the cats have been reluctant to use it - we're still having to post them through, but hopefully they'll get used to it. Fitting it was very easy and simple, certainly in a wood door. Only problem is that although the door itself seems pretty draught-proof and well-sealed, there's quite a big gap between the cat entry tunnel and the external housing, which needs to be sealed with mastic to stop the rain getting into the door. Getting it to connect was very easy - the two-eared hub is fun, and found that it worked fine with a wall between the hub and the cat flap. The app could be improved though - lacks any way to adjust basic settings, for example. It's a novelty at the moment to receive notifications on my phone every time a cat passes through (or indeed looks through) the flap, but I might get fed up with this eventually - there's no way in the app to turn them off. Also, some of the features are hard to find - I challenge anyone to find the setting for keeping a specific cat indoors without resorting to the online help community! The records of where the cat has been and when are quite fun, but of course don't work in practice - even where they're used to using a cat flap, cats will wait by other doors and windows to be let in or out, that's what cats do. True, you can manually enter when your cat has gone out or in via another route, but life's too short ... The curfew setting is good, allows you to set hours of day cats can't go out. You can't set different curfews for different cats, but not sure why you'd want to do that. Overall, this seems like a good product - pricey, but fun to use, has some useful features, and seems sturdy and well-built. Glad I got it.
