    Purrrfect

Perfect as long as it lasts, that is. I had one that stopped working after a few years, and in view of the cost of replacement kept it as an ordinary flap that admits all comers. Then, after the stray who made free of the facilities and ingratiated himself with She Who Must Be Obeyed my eldest cat made himself a permanent member of the household, and another cat began the same caper, I decided that enough was enough and bought a replacement. That has done the trick. It is also invaluable in keeping in the cat with a dickey ticker who needs pills twice a day.

    Great for fat cats!

Posted by mafalda on 14th Dec 2017

I bought this to replace a smaller model that my larger cat was finding difficult to manage. My only reservation is that all the controls are via the LCD panel on the top edge of the flap frame, which is low contrast and difficult to read without a torch once the flap is installed in a solid door. The smaller model had a mechanical method of quickly modifying the flap to Exit Only/Enter Only/ Closed, whereas with this model it is necessary to poke a pencil into a small control hole to open a menu of options and then use two other buttons to select the option you require - all this whilst holding a torch so as to be able to read the LCD screen! But the customer service for SureFlap is excellent - so help and advice is easy to access.

    Potentially an excellent product

Posted by Coleen on 26th Jul 2017

we purchased this cat flat to keep out intruders which it does, but we also needed to keep a new kitten in the house whilst giving our other two cats freedom to come and go. The only product in this range offering this option was an exceptionally small cat flap which would be difficult for normal sized cats to use, let alone Maine Coons, so we have had to revert to our old, less high tech flap for now which can be manually set to stop the kitten going out until he is big enough to join the others in the garden. It is a good product but would be so much better if the the exit mode could be programmed by chip as well as entry. I don't understand the logic - if only cats with chips programmed into the system can enter, why should any cat, chipped or not, be able to exit? There isn't even a manual override where you can allow entry for all but no exit, which is what we've had to do with our old cat flap and manually monitor until we can let the kitten out.

supere chatière, bon format pour chat de presque 8 kg, même avec nos chats craintifs

Posted by Nadège on 7th Jul 2017

Do NOT order this unit for DOG use

Posted by Tony L on 16th Mar 2017

Do NOT order this unit if you plan to use it for a DOG and in a DOUBLE or TRIPPLE glazed door. The problem you have is that the glazier will tell you that you need at least a 12cm strip of glass at bottom otherwise the glass may shatter if it slams shut. Fair enough, but then by the time you add the surround and then the dog flap, the actual height of the unit is then TOO HIGH for most dogs that are small enough to get through in the first place… Given that most will then have this on an outside door, you’ll then discover that from the outside the dog flap is even higher due to the door step etc and at that point its useless. Even if you have a nimble pup as I have, and I have a parsons Jack Russell, once they have their shoulders through the flap, their legs aren’t able to get grip/purchase as their now too high and they remain stuck! I have tried a ramp or a step, but that then means I can’t open the back door as it has to open outwards. OK if you have a patio door – maybe. Second issue was the chip. I have an Anibase chip, pups only 8 months old and it won’t read it. Even with the dog hitting his nose on the flap, no joy. I spent ages with the manufacturer and even though they sent me a test thing that was a ruler with a chip at the end on a slide, which worked – the chip in the dog wouldn’t. Now you would think that just using the spare chipped tag they supply would be easy enough, it’s not. Two chips and the unit gets confused. I’m not going to get the old one cut out! So, I have a £300 pain of new glass and £100 spent on the flap – which now won’t work. That’s one expensive lesson! In the end I removed the Sureflap – left in the plastic surround, filled the gaps in with car body filler and then went to the local plastic store who cut out a clear plastic flap, bought 2 plastic hinges and job done £23! At least the pane of glass wasn’t a waste! So annoying! Personally my recommendation would be to NOT buy a Sureflap if you’re doing this for a dog. Go get one of the bigger dog flaps and make sure the glazier can cut a square hole! I wouldn’t mind but Sureflap haven’t even offered to a) send the unit back for a refund or authorise a refund b) offered any form of apology c) taken my suggestion and updated their own site to warn people of the issues with double/triple glazed doors and the height problem.

    funciona perfectamente

Posted by enrique garceran on 27th Feb 2017
